Description of Tasks
4th Engineers (Maritime) control and participate in the operation, maintenance and repair of the machinery and equipment as directed. They are also required to carry out engine room watchkeeping duties. They may be promoted to 3rd Engineers with sufficient experience and qualifications.

4th Engineers (Maritime) must always apply professional knowledge and skills in maritime services to solve issues and problems at work.
Knowledge and skills in machinery maintenance
4th Engineers (Maritime) need to participate in the maintenance of the engine room.
Minimum Requirements
- A higher diploma in mechanical (marine) engineering or above is usually required
- Relevant certificates recognised by ocean going sector and/or river trade sector; Certificate of Competency (Marine Engineer Officer) Class 3
- 12 months of sea-time and workshop experience
