Civil Engineer
Description of Tasks
Civil Engineers design, construct, supervise, operate, and maintain large construction projects, including roads, airports, tunnels, bridges, and systems for water supply and sewage treatment.
Construction project management knowledge and skills
To lead civil engineering construction projects, Civil Engineers must manage projects from start to finish. They must coordinate effectively with different professionals and clients and have to make choices to ensure that the projects are well completed on time and within budget.
Professional knowledge and skills in civil engineering
Civil Engineers must always apply professional knowledge and skills in civil engineering to solve issues and problems at work.
Minimum Requirements
- Normally have a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction or engineering related discipline. Holders of relevant higher diplomas can articulate to related degree programmes.
- generally are corporate membership of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) in Civil/ Structural/ Geotechnical disciplines, or equivalent
- usually 4 to 6 years of relevant work experience is required
