Environmental Engineer
Description of Tasks
Environmental Engineers use the principles of engineering to develop solutions to environmental problems. They are involved in recycling, waste disposal, public health, and water/ air pollution control. They also address global issues, such as climate change, environmental sustainability and pollution control technology.
Environmental project management knowledge and skills
To lead environmental engineering construction projects, Environmental Engineers must manage projects from start to finish. They must coordinate effectively with different professionals and clients and have to make choices to ensure that the projects are well completed on time and within budget.
Professional knowledge and skills in environmental engineering
Environmental Engineers must always apply professional knowledge and skills in environmental protection, preservation and engineering to solve issues and problems at work.
Minimum Requirements
- Normally have a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or related field, such as civil, chemical, or general engineering. Holders of relevant higher diplomas can articulate to related degree programmes.
- generally are corporate members of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) in Environmental Engineering Discipline, or equivalent
- usually 4 to 6 years of experience in environmental management, monitoring and auditing of construction activities are required
