Geotechnical Engineer
Description of Tasks
Geotechnical Engineers plan, organise, perform site investigation (on geotechnical aspects) to determine and design the type of foundations, earthworks, and/ or pavement subgrades required for the intended man-made structures to be built.
Construction project management knowledge and skills
To lead geotechnical engineering construction projects, Geotechnical Engineers must manage projects from start to finish. They must coordinate effectively with different professionals and clients and have to make choices to ensure that the projects are well completed on time and within budget.
Professional knowledge and skills in geotechnical engineering
Geotechnical Engineers must always apply professional knowledge and skills in geotechnical engineering to solve issues and problems at work.
Minimum Requirements
- Normally have a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, or geotechnical engineering discipline. Holders of relevant higher diplomas can articulate to related degree programmes.
- generally are corporate membership of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) in Civil/ Structural/ Geotechnical disciplines, or equivalent
- usually 4 to 6 years of relevant work experience is required
