Town Planner
Description of Tasks
Town Planners develop and implement plans and policies for the use of urban and rural land that can accommodate population growth and revitalise physical facilities in cities. They conduct research and study economic, environmental and social factors which affect land use.
Town planning project management knowledge and skills
To lead town planning projects, Town Planners must manage projects from start to finish. They must coordinate effectively with different professionals and clients and have to make choices to ensure that the projects are well completed on time and within budget.
Professional knowledge and skills in town planning
Town Planners must always apply professional knowledge and skills in relation to town planning to solve issues and problems at work.
Minimum Requirements
- normally have a bachelor's degree in town planning
- generally are registered professional planners under the Planners Registration Ordinance; usually are full members of the Hong Kong Institute of Planners (HKIP) or equivalent; have at least 1 year's appropriate post-corporate membership experience in the planning field
- mid- and senior-level planner positions usually require 5 to 8 years of work experience in planning, or in a specific planning specialty
