Senior Manager (Ref. 240723008-IE)

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a) build and operate a central business support team for providing comprehensive support to start-ups in their business growth, including building capability, identifying opportunities, providing mentorship, securing funding and connecting them with relevant resources and networks;

(b) conduct thorough regular assessments of start-ups’ business and financial status, market potential and scalability to determine necessary resources and plans to enhance their growth and success;

(c) build and maintain an external resource pool of key expertise for venture building, encompassing various sectors including higher education, investment, incubation, industry, technology, law, finance, intellectual property (IP), etc.;

(d) provide one-on-one coaching and mentorship to start-up founders, as well as assisting them in refining their business models, market positioning and fundraising strategies;

(e) organise and facilitate workshops, seminars and networking events to foster knowledge sharing, collaboration and learning among start-ups;

(f) build and maintain relationships with industry partners, investors, government agencies and other relevant stakeholders to create a supportive ecosystem for start-ups;

(g) oversee and monitor project management including tracking business development and financial budget against the committed KPIs and ensure compliance with the University and funder policies and requirements; and

(h) perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Knowledge Transfer and Entrepreneurship or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a) a recognised degree in Business, Entrepreneurship Engineering or a relevant discipline, preferably with a master’s degree;

(b) at least eight years of solid and proven experience in supporting start-ups, entrepreneurship development or related fields;

(c) strong understanding of the start-up ecosystem, including knowledge of funding mechanisms, incubation/acceleration programmes and market trends;

(d) demonstrated experience in providing strategic guidance and mentorship to start-ups, and help to scale their business and navigate challenges;

(e) excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders, including start-up founders, investors and industry partners;

(f) strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strategic mindset and the ability to identify opportunities and develop innovative solutions;

(g) ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment;

(h) knowledge of the Hong Kong start-up ecosystem and familiarity with local government initiatives and support programmes being highly desirable; and

(i) an excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese including Putonghua.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for a written test.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
