Sports Tournaments & Sporting Events

Whether you want to participate or spectate, there are numerous ways to get involved in Hong Kong’s sporting community.

The Hong Kong Sevens, arguably the city's most renowned sporting event, takes place in late March or early April. Held at the Hong Kong Stadium in Wan Chai, the rugby tournament attracts spectators worldwide. The event is well-known for its atmosphere, particularly in the South Stand, where many spectators wear fancy costumes, contributing to its unique and vibrant character.

Another major sporting event is the Hong Kong Open, a prestigious golf tournament held in January. Top golfers from across the globe compete at the Hong Kong Golf Club in Sheung Shui for a prize of US$1 million.

Attracting around 70,000 runners annually, the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon, half marathon, and 10k events kick off early in the morning on Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui. For keen runners, the Hong Kong 100 Ultra Trail Race presents a challenging 103km course through ancient forests and unspoilt beaches. Meanwhile, the Oxfam Trailwalker invites teams of four to complete a 100km trail — walking, hiking, jogging, or running — to raise funds for charity.
