Senior Technical Officer in the Department of Chemistry (Ref.: 528758) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Senior Technical Officer specializing in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to join our Department. The appointee will be responsible for supporting research projects, managing and operating our NMR facilities, and collaborating with faculty members, researchers, and students to advance our scientific objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain NMR spectrometers and associated equipment;
• Provide technical support and training to researchers, students, and staff on NMR techniques and applications;
• Assist in the development and optimization of NMR experiments for research projects;
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of NMR instruments to ensure optimal performance;
• Manage scheduling and usage of NMR facilities;
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain accurate records of experiments and maintenance activities; and
• Contribute to research publications and presentations as needed.

Qualifications and Qualities

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Biophysics, Material Science or related disciplines, with at least 2-5 years’ related work experience. They should also possess extensive experience in NMR spectroscopy, including practical experience in operating and maintaining NMR instruments. A strong understanding of NMR theory and applications, proficiency in data analysis and interpretation of NMR spectra, excellent problem-solving and organizational skills are essential. Additionally, a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese is required. Experience in working in a research or academic environment, as well as the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively, are highly desirable.
